Pick A Puppy = Emotion Porn

Good Lord, the things that get put on TV.

Gillian is watching a TV show right now called Pick A Puppy.

People try to find the right puppy for their family.

That’s the show.

I’d have thought you’d need something more to fill a half hour show, but  apparently not.  Just bring in a new family to go googley eyed at different cute puppies and agonize over which they want to take home.

The hell?  That’s not a show, that’s emotion porn.  Seriously, if pornography is the instant gratification of carnal desires through a visual medium, bereft of plot and substance and basically just getting to the good stuff over and over again, then that is what Pick A Puppy is for people who remember that exhilarating moment they went to find their own pet – or simply imagined doing so because they have never had one.

It’s just a quick set up endorphin rush over and over again.  You might as well have a show in which a new guy and girl find true love each episode.  At least your average dating show doesn’t have any kind of predetermined outcome – it could end well, badly or somewhere in between.  But Pick A Puppy will always end the same way, the ecstatic rush of finding a puppy they’ll love for ever and ever.

D’awwwww….
